Michael Wehrli

Michael Wehrli has worked as a theater professional since 1989 as a teacher, playwright, director, actor, and in theatre administration.  He has B.F.A. in Acting & Directing from Texas Christian University and since 1994 has been the Artistic and Education director for New Moon Productions Theater Company (NMP).

As a playwright, he has written or adapted dozens of full length plays (all of which have been produced) and hundreds of short plays and scenes for students.  Six of his works have been published.  Some of his favorite full length scripts are We Open Tomorrow Night?! (published by Theatrefolk),  A Christmas Chaos (published by Heuer Publishing), Law and Disorder (published by Heuer Publishing), Titanic Aftermath (an original script based on survivor accounts, published by Engelhardt Publishing), Houston We Have A Problem (published by Heuer Publishing),  Snow White: The Melodrama, (published by Brooklyn Publishing), Found Lives (based on the real life stories of Schizophrenia sufferers), Never Trust A Penguin, Dracula, Happy Days In Oz,  Cinderella and the Princes of Rap.        

As a theater teacher, he has extensive experience working with both youth and adults.  Beyond New Moon Productions, he has worked as a teacher at: Portland Actors Conservatory, Dallas Children's Theater, Lakewood Theater, Creative Arts Theater and School, Multnomah Arts Center, Cathedral School, Portland Parks & Recreation, Hip Pocket Theater (Imagination Celebration), Odyssey of the Mind, Grout Elementary, Ainsworth Elementary, Lewis Elementary, and many other locations.  In Frankfurt Germany, Michael has worked with English Theater Frankfurt, Theater Language Studio, and Frankfurt English Speaking Theater.

Michael’s directing credits include over 150 plays in many venues in Portland Oregon and the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas and hundreds more in educational theater.  As an actor, he has been seen on many stages in Dallas/Fort Worth and has made a few appearances here in Portland.  His favorite roles include the Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz,  Hamlet in Hamlet, The Third Man in The Baltimore Waltz, Iago in Othello, Stafford in Sisterly Feelings, and Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing.
 
He currently lives and works in Portland Oregon as a theater teacher, playwright and director and continues to produce and direct shows with New Moon Productions and other companies. 

Michael is very interested in traveling to direct plays, offer workshops for youth or adult actors, or write plays commissioned by schools or theaters.
